Update #15 - 5th January

Weekly Update #15!

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year!!!

I hope you have had a great holiday and for those of you who are back in this week that you have had a great week in school.

Can you believe you are over a third of your way through your term with yipiyap? You will find that the next two terms absolutely fly by so just make sure you make the most of your time at school and all of the opportunities we will be offering you over the next few months. There’s lots kicking off at yipiyap on the fun front in January so no time no one should have the January blues!!!

Joke of the Day

I hope you are all enjoying Anne’s January Joke of the Day- it’s the way she tells ‘em!!! They certainly puts a smile on my daughter’s face on the way to school! She loves sharing them with her friends so you might like to share them with your students too!

Skipiyap

Don’t forget, if you are hoping to take part in our Skipiyap Challenge 2018 please get a rope off your RD. You will need to complete a health screening form for our Health and Safety requirments but these are very basic forms so should not stop anyone taking part. Please just ask your RD for a form before you do your turn!!! Can’t wait to see if last year’s record jumps and laughs can be beaten! Good luck!!!

First Aid Course

We are running our annual tutor first aid course this term, date to be confirmed. It involves basic first aid training including: action in emergencies; CPR; basic awareness of defibrillation; recovery position; choking and minor injuries.  No matter what you are hoping to go onto after yipiyap this basic medical knowledge is applicable to all.

We had a really good take up on this course last year and would want to repeat that again this year. To ensure we can run it we have to exceed a minimum number of participants. There will also be a nominal charge of £8 for attendance. If you are interested you should inform your Regional Director by Friday 26th January.

Yipiyap Tutor Challenge

Hot on the extremely successful footsteps of the NPD Team (details to be revealed by Anne in next week’s update but believe me a truly impressive amount raised), Jess’s Manchester Team will be taking the yipiyap tutor challenge for this coming half term.

To kick start their effort, Jess is really leading from the front! She has decided to do Dry January to contribute towards the amount her tutors raise. She’s already had some donations on her Just Giving page from friends and family and is going to keep us updated through the page as to her progress. She is at £185 already so an amazing start! Well done Jess.

If anyone is interested in taking a look at Jess’s progress and perhaps would like to make a donation, her Just Giving page can be found at the following link:

As for Team Manchester’s challenge I hear creative juices are flowing and we are to expect a big reveal in next week’s update!! Will they be able to beat the NPD massive? It’s all to play for!!!

Javed and Delwar’s Winter Walk

While the rest of us were tucking into turkey and pulling crackers, Javed and Delwar were investing their precious holidays doing amazing work raising money for the homeless (and also some for Magic Breakfast, I hear) by putting on their walking boots and doing a charity Winter Walk. This is a great effort for a truly deserving cause, particulary at this time of year. If any of you would like to help Javed and Delwar reach their target (they are £10 off !!) please go to the following link:

yipiyap 10k 2018- BEAT THE BOSS!

And if that’s not quite enough fun for this term- now’s the time to start your 10k training for our 10k runs at the end of this term!!!!! I have heard on the grapevine that Anne has started her training campaign already so if you want to BEAT THE BOSS here’s your chance!!!! Don’t take this challenge lightly- Anne is fiercely competitive and will be looking to improve her time yet again this year. We will be sending you a training schedule and details for the runs over the next few weeks but don’t let that stop you putting on your trainers and getting out there!

Run to Donate- Charity Miles

I have come across this app and thought it was a very interesting, worthwhile and relevant one  to share with you all given the potential training some of you will be doing for the 10k. Charity Miles works by app users choosing a charity from 39 international different options such as the WWF. The app then tracks the distance you run/ walk and donates a certain amount of money from corporate sponsors per mile you complete. It’s a free app but the only catch is that the user must share his/ her activity on social media either Twitter or Facebook. You are all social media savvy and since you are all doing the miles anyway, what a great way to donate to charity!

Farzana and Ann’s Tutor Top 20

Gone are the jingle bells!!! We are kicking the TT20 off this year in style!!! DJs Farzana and Ann have kindly shared the most amazing playlists for our listening pleasure! I am really looking forward to listening to these tunes over the weekend. Take a listen for yourselves folks and enjoy the magic!!! Thank you both for sharing and also the enthusiasm with which you did so!!!

Here’s the link to Farzana and Ann’s music heaven:

So, on that note, enjoy the weekend!

I will bring positivity into school by greeting everyone with a smile.

I will be proactive, looking for ways to help teachers and students and asking for help if I need it.

I’m a role model and will show children how to conduct themselves.

I will be professional at all times, respect staff and value the responsibilities I am given.

There will be times when I make mistakes but I will never stop learning!
