Yipiyap gave me a great opportunity to both have that break as well as still earn money using the knowledge I already had. Additionally, I gained experience with working with children in a school environment and even some teaching techniques that can be applied when I help friends with their Maths exams.
I chose to work for Yipiyap during my gap year because it provided me with the opportunity to help young people get excited about learning, while I developed essential skills needed to pursue my vocational aspirations.
I believe Yipiyap is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience, giving you an understanding of the diverse aspects of teaching, with a good support network providing peer support and guidance.
I chose to work for Yipiyap as I thought it was a unique opportunity that would not only stand out on a CV, but also help me develop my own skills. It's an incredibly rewarding experience as I can talk to and get to know so many students with different personalities and aspirations, and am able to help them in the subjects I enjoyed at school.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far and as someone who hopes to do Medicine, the transferrable skills I learnt whilst at Yipiyap have really helped build my confidence going forward into university.
I am finding this role a brilliant opportunity to keep my mind busy academically in my time away from full-time education due to being around the school environment. This means that I should be well-prepared for university life.
It has helped boost my confidence through rigorous advice on how to best deliver knowledge to the students. In addition, Yipiyap organised mock interviews to prepare me for the Multi Mini Interviews I was required to take to get into medicine.
Working with disadvantaged students has changed my perspective on certain aspects of life and will affect how I will act as a doctor in the future. It is an experience I will never forget and one that I definitely recommend.
Becoming a Yipiyap tutor was key in developing my own personal skills such as presenting. During my time as a tutor, I changed from someone who could not stand up in a room of people to being confident in presenting at a moment's notice.
Without working for Yipiyap, I would have been far less likely to receive an offer from my university of choice and to have gained volunteering placements with a variety of organisations.
